Balint group work is a kind of empathy practice that helps spell out transference and countertransference dynamics gently and non-intrusively, with nuanced access to affect. After an extemporaneous presentation of a case, group members describe what arises intuitively and imaginatively while focusing on the experiences of both members in the therapeutic relationship. We do not offer advice regarding technical management of the treatment process. This leaves the presenter free to resonate with images and feelings that deepen her empathy and understanding, and free to trust her own thoughts as she continues building a therapeutic relationship with her client. This series of Balint groups is offered at a flat rate for the three-month period ($180). We specify flexible attendance to accommodate the realities of busy lives. We suggest a minimum attendance of twice a month, but attendance may vary to suit the member’s circumstances and may include all nine sessions.
