Winter Clinical Seminar (second meeting)

Wednesday, January 20, 2016 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Hawthorne Hills neighborhood in Northeast Seattle
Sponsored by:
Alliance

Three Wednesday evenings: January 13, 20, and 27

The Alliance Education Committee is introducing a new series of courses, asking seasoned clinicians to offer a seminar about their work over the years.  This is an opportunity to engage with the accumulated clinical learning of someone with considerable experience as a therapist.  The seminar leader will discuss areas such as: what has shaped my work over the years, what I have struggled with, and what my work is like now. They will share case studies and clinical examples from their work to answer some of these questions and offer both highlights and challenges from their career. The seminar group may read together a couple of clinical articles that have been especially important to the leader. We hope these seminars can serve as one avenue for passing along the accumulate clinical wisdom in the field.

This winter Clinical Seminar will be led by Kris Wheeler, LMHC

Kris writes:  I entered the field of clinical psychotherapy thirty years ago after a first career in dance, specializing in the creative process of making dances.  Psychoanalysis became particularly interesting to me when I discovered connections between creative process and developmental theories, especially as seen through the lenses of British Object Relations and Middle School theorists (Winnicott, Klein, Bion, Meltzer), as well as the American outlier, Searles (the first analytical writing I read).  I am grateful for the way experiences with patients, teacher and colleagues have given me a career far more illuminating and engaging than I ever could have anticipated.
