Depth oriented psychotherapy is to a great degree centered in grief. Much of the work is the slow, painful process of helping a person come to a point where grief is even possible and during this time the therapist bears much of the weight of the unprocessed mourning.  We all have so much fear of being overwhelmed by our losses, regrets, failings, disappointments, and developing a capacity to digest our grief and grow within it is much of the work of personal development.  Melanie Klein, the founder of the object relations point of view within psychoanalysis, struggled tremendously with grief and depression in her own life and made the idea of moving into grief central in her work.  We will read one of her articles on the mourning process and explore our own sense of the nature of grieving. This class will be cosponsored by COR and the Alliance.  Please contact the instructor directly to enroll.

Fee:  $150.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to describe Klein's idea of the depressive position in grief.

2. Participants will be able to apply an approach to grieving in their clinical work.
