Our Conference brings THE SOCIO-POLITICAL REALM right into the clinical space. By attending to the multiple dimensions of difference and sameness including politics, culture, race, gender, class, and sexual orientation as they emerge in the therapeutic process, we hope to put a definitive end to the comforting illusion that our consulting rooms can be kept separate from our troubled world. 

Special Guests:

• Philip Cushman, keynote speaker, has spent a lifetime writing about the place of the political within psychological theory and practice and who advocates for the role of psychologist as public intellectual.
• Sunil Bhatia, an internationally known scholar, specializes in understanding the development of self and identity in the context of racism, migration, globalization, and formation or transnational Diasporas.
• Simone Drichel, a scholar in psychoanalysis, postcolonial theory, and continental philosophy.

We will also feature a special plenary on the tragedy of “Government Sponsored Indian Residential Schools.”
