Clinical seminars are presented by seasoned clinicians who have been asked by the Alliance Education Committee to offer a seminar about their work over the years. This is a great opportunity to engage with the accumulated clinical learning of someone with considerable experience as a therapist.
Two Wednesdays: October 11, 18; 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
I, like many of us, was focused on helping people long before I entered graduate school. Thirty-five plus years later I still have the conversation in my head, with colleagues (with you?) about how that legacy was an obstacle and how it was very much a tool. My training was quite eclectic. Hungry for knowledge I dove in wherever I could. Here too there is another conversation I have in my head, with colleagues (with you?) about the pros and cons of a focused training program versus a wide ranging exposure to various theorists.
In the end it has come down to compassionate curiosity, the art and skill of keeping my heart open and the willingness to be surprised. Here too is a final conversation….why is it so hard to show up and speak to my (our?) heartfelt experience which is in the room. It is here where I feel most alive in my work and it can be one of the hardest places to go, or stay…
