The language that we use within ourselves as an aspect of the inner dialogue as well as external dialogue to our members of the collective carries a powerful energy and force that defines us from childhood. The American collective with its multiplicity of ethnic groups have created and used language that has oftentimes been racially divisive, psychologically harmful and served as historical identifiers in ways that have supported racism. This lecture will explore these circumstances as aspects of American Jungian psychology and consider how we may engage in discussion of them for our collective Jungian healing.

1. Identify three Jungian Psychology theories: Shadow, Opposites and Complexes and their relationship to the Jungian concept of Other.

2. Integrate new knowledge that supports the exploration of personal self-identified racial complexes.

3. Recognize, label and discuss at least (3) American cultural complexes that have led to intergenerational Collective societal problems.

Speaker biography:
Fanny Brewster, PhD, MFA and Jungian Analyst member of Philadelphia Association of Jungian Analysts, (PAJA) and Professor at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She is a writer of nonfiction including African Americans and Jungian Psychology: Leaving the Shadows ((Routledge, 2017), and Archetypal Grief: Slavery’s Legacy of Intergenerational Child Loss (Routledge, 2018). Dr. Brewster is a lecturer and workshop presenter on Jungian related topics that address Culture, Diversity and Creativity.
