Intergenerational Trauma: A Layering of Many Voices. Can the Transmission of Trauma be Disrupted?

The SPSI Art Salon Committee presents a screening of the documentary film, Nana, the story of an Auschwitz survivor, Josef Mengele’s translator, who spent her life fighting intolerance. This will be followed by a panel—Sue Radant, PhD; Erica Rubin, PsyD; and Joe Okimoto, MD—who will discuss: if we can truly “know” and understand such horrors as the Holocaust, is it possible for us to interrupt the transmission of trauma to future generations, and maybe genocide itself?

This event is free, but we encourage you to make a donation to SPSI to support future programming. Thank you for your support!

Sue Radant, PhD, is the daughter of Holocaust survivors. She is a Training and Consulting Psychoanalyst and past-director of SPSI. She treats adults, children and adolescents in her private practice in Seattle.

Erica Rubin, PsyD, is the daughter of a Holocaust refugee. She is a psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapist with a particular interest in intergenerational trauma and the impact of world events on individual psychology.  She is in private practice in Seattle.

Joe Okimoto, MD, is a graduate of SPSI and a survivor of a WWII American Concentration Camp in Poston, AZ.  He retired from practice in 2016 and is currently involved in keeping the story of the incarceration of Japanese Americans alive in an effort to prevent US history from repeating itself.
