9:30 AM: "Matt": The Analysis of Bisexual Conflict in a 4 1/2 year old boy

Joel Martell, Ph.D., Robert Campbell, M.D. and Martin Bullard, M.S.W.

The presenters will discuss the analysis of a 41⁄2 year old boy seen for a five-year period in analysis. This clinical case will demonstrate the analyst’s need to use multiple defense interpretations using metaphor, and avoiding supportive measures and explanations.

Learning Objective: Participants in this clinical case conference presentation will be able to identify the effects of excessive anger and multiple fears of being harmed and attacked by using metaphor in multiple defense interpretations.

1:00 PM: Analysis of an 11-Year-Old Boy - Fraternal Twin

Mali M. Mann, M.D.

Dr. Mann will discuss the analysis of an 11-year-old, fraternal twin boy. This clinical case will demonstrate the analyst’s need to work with multiple adults in a child’s life in order to facilitate the continuation of the analysis while safeguarding the confidentiality of the child in analysis.

Learning Objective: Participants in this clinical case presentation will be able to identify the effects of repressed anger, of traumatic separation from a parent and of maternal lack of attunement and neglect on latency development, and the specific intervention strategies used to sustain the analytic treatment.

9:30 AM: Case Updates from two presenters at the 2015 San Diego Meeting

Valerie Penner, Ph.D. and Julie Wood, M.A., LMFT, LMHC

Dr. Penner and Ms. Wood will update two child analytic cases presented at the 2015 Western Regional Child Analytic meeting. These clinical cases will demonstrate the analyst’s need to work flexibly with the individual in analysis and with the families of the individual to maintain the analysis of the individual.

Learning Objective: Participants in these two clinical case presentations will be able to identify the resistance that may develop in on-going analytic treatment and the specific strategies that may be necessary to sustain the treatment.
